Over The Fence Community Group
A quote from one of our happy Over The Fence members: "Hi JS- Thank you for the welcome message. Do you remember that show Home Improvement and the neighbor Wilson Wilson Jr. who would meet Tim the Tool Man at the fence, but never showed anything but his eyes? He was so funny. This group reminds me of those encounters... you get the wisdom, humor, and support from your DS...
And there are some of our members who are vulnerable and naive enough to get sucked in by this. sometimes when your mind is clouded by depression or pain you don't make GOOD DECISIONS. Please if YOU are tempted LISTEN TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY:
A few years back when I was very ill I was befriended by a man supposedly from the States. WE had a online romance for 3 mos. Talked to this person for 2-3 x day for 3 mos. Thought I was on Cloud 9. Sent me pics of his house etc and a young boy he said was his son. And, of course, his wife had passed on from a terminal illness.
Oh yeh ~ He really had me goin My head was spinnin! Well then this poor man lost his luggage while traveling.. Would I help him out... It would only be loan.... TOOK ME FOR A TOTAL OF $750 !! $100 2 mos in a row AND then MY ENTIRE SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK for the month!!
HONEY ~ I never heard from him again .. I met him in a legitimate senior dating service. So PLEASE if you are EVEN CONSIDERING helping someone online and ESPECIALLY if you are not well. Then get your bank to check him out credentially..OR HER as in this case...
These people go to work JUST LIKE WE DO except they GO TO COMMIT CRIMES online everyday and get paid by commission on SUCKERS like me!!

what i did instead was played dumb and strung the criminal along saying i hadn't received the money orders yet, i was ill and hadn't been to my po box. he called on my cell phone and left a message pretending to have an accent and calling from a foreign number. i believe that was also a scam. there is a service that for a small fee will allow your phone number to be disguised, it's called spoofing. and i'm sure he was also trying to disguise his voice. what he didn't know of course is i am very familiar with many accents and recognized his fake one =)

The fraud scam websites do a good job in alerting us to what to watch out for.
i'm far too cynical to fall for such things i hope....but i won't say 'never!'
