Some people who have ovarian cancer are also more likely to get breast cancer. Have you been tested for the BRCA I and BRCA II genes? If not, you may want to check with your doctor to see if you qualify for it and if your insurance will pay for it.

Having the knowledge of whether you carry the BRCA genes can be helpful in making medical treatment decisions. Diane

Thanks for the response. I did get the BRCA test done and I'm not a carrier. But I was reading online about Lynch syndrome. That makes the person have an increased risk of getting endometrial or ovarian cancer. When I go in for my 6 month check up I'm going to talk to my oncologist about getting tested for it. If I do have it, my older sister could also have it.

Boy there sure aren't many posts here. Just wanted to let you know someone read your post.
I am not familiar with Lynch syn. or MAL. but chemo while a wonderful thing for cancer also is hard on all your body system. But so is cancer. My cancer caused Myasthenia Gravis for 6 mos. prior to my starting on carboplatin and taxol. Now I am left with numb toes due to chemo. Hang in there. While I don't post here much anymore,I will try to check back. May God be with you.

Thank you pussycat1! I was left with neuropathy in my feet from chemo. It sucks! But I'm use to it now. Are u on any medication for yours? I'm not familiar with Myasthenia Gravis. What is it? I fluid in my plural cavity (lining around my lung) caused by the cancer. I had to have surgery to close it up. I had 20+ cups of fluid removed in 4 months. That was last year. Still cancer free. It will be 3 years next month.

Good for you on your 3 yrs. It's been 8 months since my last chemo. Myasthenia Gravis is a neurological disorder along the lines of MS or Parkinson. It's an auto-immune disorder where your immune system attacks the muscle connectors. Leaves you weak in arms legs, jaws, facial muscles. Since my immune system was all out of whack trying to fight cancer it goofs up and attacked my muscles instead. I couldn't eat anything for 6 mos of any substance. Anyway as soon as the chemo started getting the cancer under control the other went away. In the beginning of the cancer I had ascites which caused my belly to accumulate fluid. I had 2 liters removed once a week for the first 3-4 weeks.

It is known that women with OC can also get liver, lung, colon, and breast cancers, and that certain chemo drugs can cause other forms of cancer . I also think, but im not positive that if you have not had a remission, ( like me) and the cancer shows up in another area, it is still considered ovarian, not sure if thats the same for a reccurance.... Since most OC is mstubborn, and recures 85% of the time, I get ct-scans every 6 months to make sure the chemo is keeping it at bay, if there is any growth, or if it shows up somewhere else, they will know within 6 months.
