Hello everyone. Im writing to maybe get some feedback from anyone on the "cocktail" i just started.
After 3 months of topetecan, scans showed slight growth, so after i made it clear to my doctor i wanted to be put back on the only chemo that has given me any positive results, he instead came up with this trio to be more aggressive. So i had my first treatment of Avistan, Cisplatin, and Gemzar last Wednesday. I have had taxol, carboplatin, Doxil, and topetecan, all over the last 14 months or so and never had much for side effects, but i was sick for 5 days after this newest treatment. Has anyone had these 3 drugs given all at once?
Another question to throw out there.... Doctor told me my cancer is platinum resistant, so im wondering why he would put me on Cisplatin. Any clues? I know, i know, i should ask him, but i find i get more answers from other sources.
I also got the speech about how i will have this until i die, and it will never go away. When i questioned him about all the women with ovarian cancer that are 10, 15, and 20 years cancer free he said, yes, yes, yes. and actually flipped his hand as if to wave my words away. Never got an explanation.

Cisplatin resistance[edit]Cisplatin combination chemotherapy is the cornerstone of treatment of many cancers. Initial platinum responsiveness is high but the majority of cancer patients will eventually relapse with cisplatin-resistant disease. Many mechanisms of cisplatin resistance have been proposed including changes in cellular uptake and efflux of the drug, increased detoxification of the drug, inhibition of apoptosis and increased DNA repair.[14] Oxaliplatin is active in highly cisplatin-resistant cancer cells in the laboratory; however, there is little evidence for its activity in the clinical treatment of patients with cisplatin-resistant cancer.[14] The drug paclitaxel may be useful in the treatment of cisplatin-resistant cancer; the mechanism for this activity is unknown.[15]
