Hi, I just saw your post and had to reply. I actually was on here for a widows support group first as I lost my husband to Lung Cancer last year. So why am I here writing you? Because I am a stage 4 Ovarian Cancer survivor. I was diagnosed 11 months after my husband and I still survived even with how difficult it was at my home. I'm hear 2 years later !! Things to come will be your mom loosing her hair which will be very traumatic for her at first and then she'll just be like ok, it's just hair, I'm fighting for my life here ! So find her some self adhesive eyelashes (at CVS ), some eyebrow pencils, and some pretty scarves to cover her head. So she can feel "normal" when she wants to. Tell her she's pretty even though she knows your lying, It'll make her smile, or cry then smile. Hug and kiss her everyday and tell her you Love her. Make sure she has plain foods to eat that she likes for the bad days. I ate mashed potatoes, pancakes, and vegetable soup. Ask her what she thinks will work for her. Certain smells made me sicker so be wary of what your cooking on her bad days. Please keep up with your school work, your clothes, your chores, or whatever puts her at ease so her body can fight the fight of her life. Trust me, she's fighting to be with you all. She will get sicker and weaker but that doesn't mean she isn't winning the war. Chemo is poison so it's not easy to handle. Cry in the shower if you need to, but don't hold it in and go crazy. everyone will cry sometimes. Watch movies with her, read books with her, Be with her when you can. She'll really need rest so her insides can do their battle. I'm hoping you're a religious family because above all I believe God saved my life. So pray your little heart out, and get every one you know and everyone they know to pray for your mom. My doctor had recommended no meat, no sugar, no dairy, no caffeine, no corn. I don't know if her doctor will. I was pretty strict about this. I do use Splenda though, which my doctor doesn't like. Sweety, I have two sons, two step-daughters, and 7 grandkids and I'm almost 53 and was 50 when I was diagnosed. This is so much for you to take in but I thought it could help. It is scary, and you are very young. Lean on your family and friends. I can tell that your Mother has raised a wonderful, caring young woman. It is important for you also to take care of yourself. Don't withdraw from your school activities. They are important for both you and your Mother. She wants you to be happy and healthy.
