i have health insurance only as long as i am on medical leave from work, and i can pay the 80$ a week to keep it.
problem is , my medical leave will be over soon, i am still unable to go back to the job i have had for 12 years because of schedule issues and physical limitations....
the insurance only pays 3000 a year toward tests, including chemo... and only 7 office visits a year, so as you can imagine our medical bills are beyond what we can hope to pay, as we live paycheck to paycheck.. and now only 1 paycheck..
does anyone know of some kind of government help out there? we will be without any coverage at all soon, and my husband is having health issues as well.
im told we can not get medicaid / care unless we are 65, blind, or disabled....

You might want to contact the American Cancer Society in your state as well as the State Department of Health. and pick their brains for advice on how to handle this. Also, you might want to ask your doctor's office about any resources they know of. They may be able to assist you. You should be able to find them either in the phone book or find them on computer

Money issues are always difficult, and especially so when you're sick. I wish you well as you explore this matter. Diane

If cancer isn't bad enough, it's paying for treatment that is so terrible. My bills in my first year of treatment were around $500,000 because of all the complications I had. I carried our insurance and fortunately was able return to work before my medical leave ended.

Here's a couple of ideas. There should be a social worker at the hospital where you were treated. That person would be a resource for you. Also, this may not be an option for you but when ovarian cancer is deemed incurable then one can get social security disability. Ovarian cancer is one of the compassionate disability diseases where SSD is fast--tracked. I retired eight months before I reached full retirement age and was able to get disability before going on retirement. The social security office helped me with the paperwork. If you are on disability, in two years you become eligible for Medicare even though one is younger than 65.

Again, I would start with the hospital's social worker. This person should know what state services might help. Good luck, Janet
