This may seem like an odd question, but i would like to know what others think.
While i realize what ovarian cancer is, and the need for a gyno/oncol. is it standard to get a pelvic exam every month when i see the doctor? My thinking is everything in that area except my vagina is gone, is there really a need ?
this is my second doctor. i was refered to him after my surgery so i could get treatments closer to home. My first doctor did a pelvic at my initial apointment, and that was the only time. i was admitted straight from his office into the hospital, and scheduled for surgery. at no point while i was in the hospital, or at the post -op did i get another.
when i questioned this doctor when at my second visit, he did another exam, he said he had felt a tumor at my first visit, but it was gone at this one... now why wouldnt he tell me he felt a tumor? he said it had developed in the 5 weeks since the surgery, and before chemo. i had a long wait before chemo because of intestinal issues, slow recovery of bowels.
so if anyone can tell me if a pelvic exam is standard every month i wont feel so uncomfortable. im not real thrilled with this guy as it is, i deal with him because i can not travel for treatment to my first doctor.

I often think my gyn/onc (who I just love) doesn't tell me everything that he knows. And, in truth, I don't always want to know everything. I just want to know what I need to know to help myself fight this disease. I certainly know much more now than when I started this journey but there is no way I could have mentally handled some of the very scary things at diagnosis. Of course, if you have a question, you have a right to the answers. I am very comfortable about calling my onc's office and talking to the nurse about things.
Yep, it is weird that without a cervix or anything we still get pelvics but things can show up. xxJanet
i was not recieving chemo at the time he says he felt a tumor.. wasnt until my second visit, and second pelvic that he told me AFTER i asked about the constant pelvics...
there is a very good possibility i am over-reacting, i do not like male doctors as a rule, and did not get to pick either of the gyno/oncol i have had. i wonder if i should call my regular gyno, who is a woman, and see if she knows...
