There are many diseases and disorders that may affect the eyes, such as Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Cataracts, Optic Atrophy, Optic Nerve Hyoplasia, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and Retinal detachment.
A few months ago I noticed several floaters in both eyes that were not there before. I knew what they were because I have had one appear in my peripheral vision nearly a decade ago. These new floaters are very irritating because they are in my direct-line of sight.
There are two main methods to remove floaters in the eye:
1) Vitrectomy Similar to laparoscopic surgery (3 puncture holes in your eye to remove the floaters)
a. Risks: Increased risk of cataracts, retinal detachment, high complication rates.
2) YAG Laser to remove the floaters
a. New procedure, limited doctor availability.
b. From what Ive read it can cause increased eye pressure but the doctors note that if a patient has that, it should go away eventually.
c. Very low complication rate, although it is not zero.
My questions to those here:
1) Has anyone had either procedure?
2) How was your outcome?
3) For those living with eye floaters directly in your field of vision, how do you cope with it?
4) Has anyone had any floaters that were in their line of sight that went away eventually?
5) Is there any method to shift irritating floaters to another part of the eye without surgery?
Any other advice?

I never had those procedures but I have been having floater for the past year or so and I am young and was in high school trying to do my work with them was sometimes hard especially when they got worse.(now they are in bigger blobs) I got checked and everything they told me they can't do anything until my retina detaches which they said might happen within the next 5 years. I just had to deal with it you kinda have to ignore it but it is hard trying to read when they are in big blobs and get more gray looking then it was when it was clear. I hope I answered question 2 and 4.

I had vitrectomy and cataract surgery. there were complications and there usually are. I went to "the best" doctors on the planet. From what I have heard from many patients, most experience various "weaknesses" of the eye. message me for further discussion. thanks and Merry Christmas!

Hello I would really like to speak with somebody who had of a virectomy. I had a retinal detachment in a hole in my macular and I had the surgery. I was seeing blurry and wavy and floaters. Before this all happened I had wonderful vision I only wore glasses for distance.Jayne
