Hi all, I was diagnosed yesterday with osteoporosis in my lower spinal bones...diagnoses took me by complete surprise. I am a 43 yr old woman, 2 yrs ago I had a bad pulmonary embolism...blood clot in my leg almost died...because I was on hormone replacement therapy at the time of the embolism, dr thought maybe that was a cause. I was on blood thinners for almost 1 year and could not continue on hormone therapy even though I needed it. Last year I developed lower back pain and in the last 6 months I lost about 24 pounds which is way too much for my body type. I also started getting really bad leg pains and hip pain. I have been to the ER over 15 times in the last 8 months with these horrible bouts of pain....Finally, my gyno decided to send me for a bone scan and there it is...I have advanced osteo....I had to go and get more blood tests today to check for all the other things that may have caused it...I feel soooo cheated. I feel like I didn't even get the "heads" up warning to try to hold it off. My bones hurt all the time and I can't help thinking about my life expectancy..... How am I going to be in my 50's...and on? This is sooo scary to me. I have already lived a near death experience..and now do I have to live with a degenerative disease that will compromise my living? Plus because of my past history of blood clots dr isn't sure I can take some of the types of meds for osteo.....I think this is a great web site.....thank you all for letting me vent....
