Do you take any of the recommended vitamins? Sounds like your vit D levels are low, this can cause depression, SAD, etc. I would start with the vitamins and try light exercise to get things moving in the right direction again. Good luck-you are very young to be a member of our sad club.

I can't say that I've ever felt "brittle"; but since I started taking a strontium supplement, I feel "stronger." So I think it's possible that you could be so "in tune" with your body that you might actually feel what you sense.

I am sorry for your struggles. Part of my osteoporosis is a result of long-term use of prednisone and hydrocortisone (3 years). But the other part was probably due to my gluten intolerance that I didn't discover until 3 years ago, which caused vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

I think that the standard medications can cause jaw necrosis, which is probably why you haven't been treated yet before your surgery. But I don't know if the strontium that I'm on can cause that problem. Maybe you could ask one of your doctors about it. I use a product called Strontium Bone Maker that I get at vitacost.com online. As far as vitamins or any other OTC meds are concerned, I cannot afford them and Medicare doesn't cover the prescription version of them either. So for now, I am officially under no sort of treatment until after my surgery, which god only knows when that will take place.

Right now I'm not looking for medication advice, but asking other sufferers whether or not they experience this "brittle" sensation, or something similar.

Siouxdax, I do not feel brittle but I do feel some weakness and occasional pain in my bones. I also take steroids. I have tapered down from 40mg of prednisone down to 11mg. I plan to get off of the steroids asap. I know the prednisone is what caused my osteoporosis. Steroids are dangerous if taken for a long time period. I believe in changing medications after a short time period if I am not reaching my goals. I am currently giving Boniva a try but if I see side effects then I am switching to strontium. I haven't experienced those feelings, but maybe gentle exercise might help a bit. I found a site by Mike Ross which I can highly recommend, he sends exercises by email periodically which are really brilliant. (Balance-Excercises.com) Also there is a site called www.saveourbones.com which has a lot of information for natural suggestions. These sites are really interesting and informative. I am starting on Prolia (denosumab) after Christmas to see how that helps. It is a newly licenced treatment I believe.

It is my understanding that there are no symptoms to start with, then as the osteoporosis progresses then micro fracture happen and along with it the pain.
I am sorry to hear that this is happening at such a young age. My concern is what will happen when you hit 45 or 65?

Not sure if anything I can say will help or even if it is valid.

I have been on inhaled corticosteroids for 6 years, and only a couple of courses of prednisolone, one was over a month the other only a week.

I was diagnosed osteoporosis right hip 2.5 just over into osteop. Lower spine and left hip is osteopenie.

I've been told there is no pain with osteop but I have been getting a hip pain on and off more frequently over past year. It feels like my right hip is higher but right foot hits ground before the left. I have no way of knowing is this is the result of wear on the hip joint as still waiting xray results to see about the alignment.

I wouldn't describe the feeling I get as brittle bones but it does somehow feel like one bone is grating on the other but this could easily be incorrect. Just sharing thoughts.

Wow siouxdax, 60mg is mega steroid dose and for 12 years! that is just awful for you, I'm assuming that is oral steroid.
