Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Support Group
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) an ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior toward authority figures that goes beyond the bounds of normal childhood behavior. When a child cannot seem to control his anger or frustration, even over what seems to be trivial or simple to others, the child will often react in violent or negative ways to his own...

My ex-husband and I divorced in 2005. We had three young children at the time, a daughter who was 4 and two sons who were 3 and 2.
From the time that our middle child was brought home from the hospital, I knew that he was different. I told everybody so. He was super light sensitive, didn't seem to like to be held, cried non-stop...he was just "different" from his sister, but I thought to myself "Well, of course he is...kids are all different". As he got older, I knew that something just wasn't quite right with him. By the time he was 2, I was terrified of him. He had a baby brother by then, and I constantly had to watch him. He would intentionally hurt the baby...just because he could. I chalked it up to new sibling rivalry. When he started throwing temper tantrums that were out of this world and kicking holes in walls during the tantrums, I knew we had a serious problem. He would hit, kick, bite, throw things.
When his father and I separated, I moved out and had all three children by myself. My ex husband made things as difficult as he could on me. He never saw the kids, never took the kids, didn't pay me a dime in child support. I myself was 25 years old, making minimum wage, supporting three babies by myself. Needless to say, I was stressed out! My son's behaviors hit a really bad low 5mo after moving out, when he nearly killed his little brother. He literally nearly killed him. I called the kids' father and begged him to take our son, because I was worried about the safety of my other two children.
My son came back to live with me in Feb of this year. Life since then has been pure hell! My son is so disruptive that it causes non-stop stress at home, at school, at daycare, with his grandparents. His father has nothing to do with him because he decided that he couldn't take the behavior anymore. I was hesitant to take him back into my home, out of fear for his siblings.
The last few months have been hell...school is a mess, he's been thrown out of one daycare and is about to be thrown out of a second, he and his siblings argue constantly. My kids are now 11, 10, and 8. Tonight, my son physically assaulted his younger brother for the second time in a week. The two assaults have been over the silliest, most minor things.
I don't know what to do. He's medicated, we've been through Idk how many meds over the years! We live in a small town and the only psychologist that had "room" for him as a patient can only see him once a month, if that. I have no real support system. I feel totally and completely alone with him.
I love my son...he's my baby...I just feel like I'm totally and completely losing him. He steals, hurts people...I will visit him in jail someday, the way he is going. Looking at him makes me want to cry, because he isn't bad in his heart...but something is wrong in his head...and I don't know what else to do to help him!!!

Do you have a mental health center for the county you live in. Like we have different mental health places that cover certain counties,, if so you really need to look into getting him in to one of those. they should be able to provide you with help. they should be able to get you some support for him and your family. document everything. I know this is a hassle and sometimes you just cannot sit down and do it,, but this way they have some history to look at and see if there is a pattern. have you talked to to anyone from child protective services, they may be able to direct you to some help also.. just keep looking and do not give up. I know it hard but you are his only hope, but you need a strong support system under you so you can help him, they do wear us out and we just have days where we cannot do it anymore,, what county are you in? hang in there and keep checking your post and also keep looking for that help..

We live in Webster Co, IA. Everyone keeps telling me that I should put him in the boy's home here...but I can't do that to him. Like I said, he does bad things...but he isn't bad in his heart. The idea of him going into a boy's home, or someday jail, just kills me. Kids like my son fall through the cracks everywhere...as I'm sure many of the kids that we all talk about do. I get so upset at the mental health system in this country. I can't stand the idea of my son being sent away...there's a good chance that a kid with a good heart will come home a worse kid :(
