Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Support Group
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) an ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior toward authority figures that goes beyond the bounds of normal childhood behavior. Before bed last night I pleaded with him to please stay quietly in bed, and for us to please have a pleasant good night rather than a GO TO SLEEEEEP! I told him that if I didn't have to go back into his room at all that night he would get a prize today. He was laying there all sad and said, but mom, it's really hard for me to sleep. I said I know and Im sorry. (at this moment it dawned on me that on several occasions we would simply just come out of him room saying he can't sleep, and I would tell him that the best way to fall asleep is to stay in bed).
So I told him that if he had a hard time sleeping, he could use a flashlight and read until he got tired. And it worked. He was quiet and he fell asleep before midnight. Still late and he was still tired this morning, but it was a huge improvement.
I suffer from insomnia time to time as well, so I feel for him in not being able to fall asleep.
I'm going to try melatonin once I can afford it.
Which, btw, what is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist? The Dr. was saying he has to be seen by one first before being seen by the other. Don't remember which is which though.
I'm trying the melatonin tonight. So far he's not asleep, but it's only 9:30....
