Reading many of these posts I can relate and experienced many of these situations. My son is diagnosed with ODD and I've had to pull him out of school and leave many places because of his behavior. He shows no empathy, gets very angry and refuses to follow directions. My daughter, on the other hand, is much worse. She curses, she hits and throws things. She has a very hard time sleeping at night. We are working on getting help but their seems to be a lack of support in Delaware. Right now my son, whose is 11, is entering middle school and I definitely feel its not the right fit for him. The school he is in now is great but stops at fifth grade. Does anybody have suggestions on schools who can deal with children with ODD?

I would also like to know this answer. I've heard that military school is not appropriate, but I would think the structure would be good. There is no support for ODD in my area either. My son's ODD really hit a high at middle school. Must have something to do w/ puberty. Rick, I do have a question for you though???? Do you thinks it's a good idea to surround your child w/ others who are like him? I would want my child to be surrounded by normal, so he can learn what appropriate behavior is. If you are looking for a summer program/year round, I have heard that the Joe Gibbs (former Redskins coach) camp is good. Apparently they will give you quite a bit of info over the phone.

I have thought of Military school for the structure and discipline but we don't have the money for that. Jen the Joe Gibbs camp sounds good, I will look into that. I have checked out several camps but I haven't found one that is trained to deal with these kids. Thanks for the info.
