Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Support Group
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) an ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior toward authority figures that goes beyond the bounds of normal childhood behavior. Since we started the program--going to bed has been a success. He may not fall asleep right away--but we are consistant with maintaining the same bed time and earning his sticker to go towards his goal. We are still having difficulties with cleaning his room but, he's getting better. I can't blame him too much for that one because I know I hated cleaning my room when I was young as well. But when my mother said to clean it--I cleaned it, I did not have an explosion like he does.
go upstairs and sit beside the bed, say nothing and continue to put them back in bed, they will stop fighting and lay down at some point... then slowly, VERY SLOWLY make your way towards the door until you are out... i have done it a few times, now my problem isnt going to bed, but staying there through out the night... GOOD LUCK!
With regards to the new behavioural issues at school, have you asked your son or the school what changes may have recently occurred? Perhaps a new area of study is proving difficult or maybe bullying is occurring somewhere? Maybe a new student has started and an adjustment period is happening for your son? Have there been any staff changes or an influx of supplies lately? Sudden changes, for my son, often mean something of that nature, and is rarely unrelated and out of the blue. I wish you luck in trying to figure out what is changing. Sorry to post this so late. I haven't been on the boards in a while.
AsEllz, how goes the bedtime routine? Have you asked your son what he needs at bedtime? I know he's young, but if he's always felt he needs your presence to go to bed, is he afraid to be left alone? Just a thought.
