Hi Lisa3384 I'm so sorry you are going thru so much. Have they tried any medications for Gavin? I understand the walking on egg shells feeling. My son is 13 and has not been diagnosed yet, but after researching I believe he has ODD and probably ADHD. Yesterday he barricaded himself in his room because he didn't want to go to his Dentist appointment. We had to change him to homeschooling because thr school didn't want to be bothered with him. We tried family counseling but they just told us we are bad parents. That was a few years ago. I made an appointment for him with a psychiatrist for next week but I have no idea how we are going to get him there. When he doesn't want to do something he either fights us or barricades his bedroom door. You will find that you can relate to most of the posts here. At least it helps to know you are not the only one. Hang in there.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear what you are going through. You have come to the right place. I can totally relate. I have a 13 year old son with ODD, depression, and anxiety. The doctors also thought he had Asperger's, but he has been formally tested twice and does not appear to be on the autism spectrum. I know exactly what you mean about the feeling of walking on eggshells. The slightest issue can set them off. The right medication can help, but finding the right one can be a long and painful process. I don't really have any advice, but I just wanted to reach out and let you know that you are not alone.

thank you both. my son is on medication and has been for 8 year numerous different ones. im not sure where either of you live but I live in Delaware lower Delaware at that, an area with very limited resources. there are so many hoops you have to jump through just to get help or even someone to tell you what to do. finally after persistent bugging and calls I am getting my son help, but again you have to go up baby steps at a time in order to get the proper help, its almost like they want him to commit a crime before he gets help. there are organizations that come to your home to do counseling visits, in Delaware at least, but again you have to go up those baby steps in order to get that help. blows my mind how the system works here. last night my son hit me, my sisiter and my 4 year old daughter. this is just one of an everyday occurrence with him, each time getting worse, the crisis line that I call keeps telling me to call the police, what mother would want to do that. that is one of only a few ways I can get him more help unfortunately. I hope both of you keep your chins up.

My son is seven and he has ODD, poor impulse control, is attention seeking. Yes my son has been admitted to the mental hospital for trying to stab me and my daughter with a knife. Since than I have gotten him into therapy and a behaviour modification group called incredible years. It is also a book called incredible years as well, that you can get on Amazon I believe. The book is very helpful, Since taken that class my son is far from perfect most days it's still hell but he's a lot better. My son still steals, goes outside without permission, a temper out of this world, sometimes he leaves and I don't no where to find him, constantine need to touch whatever his little mind tells him to. We have our high days and low days but One thing I know you cannot fight with a child with odd. It will be a never ending battle. Hopefully this can help, avoid the word NO, give choices/ example you can have when you do whatever it is you want them to do. Stick to your gun's. I'm not trying to seem like I no it all trust I don't. Just trying to put out what I learned and hope it will help.

Lisa, Why would I call the police? If they arrest him, who would pay for the lawyer? What if he gets community service? Who would drive him? Sounds like the punishment would be for me, not him? This is the only reason I don't call. I would love to know if any has called them?
