So we had major issues with my son last year. THis year we are not having as major issues and he is doing fine. He is playing football and I really think that is helpping him get some of his aggression out. Granted I have to go to every practice, but I do not have to stay the whole time. I can leave half way through it. We are even able to see the pdoc every 3 months instead of monthly like it was for a while. I am going to ask the pdr to see if we can get him off some of his meds cause he really is doing so much better, but am hesitant because he is doing so well.
Thought that I would share there is hope out there.

I am (so far.... where is the wood!) is the same position. It is a GREAT feeling, to know they can manage. Socially there are still issues but at least he is doing well at school and is calmer at home... EXCEPT morning... I hate MORNINGS!
I am happy for you, enjoy it but be prepared. I'm trying to prepare myself without being pesimistic. For their sake though we have to be prepared and prepare them that there could be bad SPELLS... but hopefully that's all they are is spells.
As far as the medicine, I for one know my child is not capable of managing (at least not yet) without them. I would talk with the doctor and if they can go off and then back on if they need to then maybe give it a try. All we can do is TRY that's the biggest thing I have figured out so far... there is no cut and dry... right or wrong. Just trial and error! and hopefully error is less..............

I hear you about being pessimistic. We have struggled so long with our kids and when it looks like things are going well i feel like it's the calm before the storm. I always hesitate to tell anyone how well it is going. My son has been doing great at alternative school and is dominating in football. I found out that he will get to go back to his home school mid November to give it a try, he will just go in late and skip the electives since those are not very structured, school is even going to arrange to have a van pick him up mid morning to take him at no cost to us. Thing are going well with just a few bumps in the road which is soooo much better than before when we were actually driving off a cliff! Be strong mommies! We must be doing something right. :-)
