At my wits end

I have a 10yo son who was diagnosed in kindergarten with ADHD/ODD. Here lately he has become more aggressive. He has kicked giant holes in his walls, is breaking another door to his room and his anger and frsutration is off of the charts. He was in therapy, but his therapist left and trying to find a new one is challenging. He is on medication for his ADHD, but I don't think it is working anymore. When he's fine, he's the sweetes boy...then if he is set off, the monster shows up. Does this ever get any better?

I feel the exact same way.. My daughter was diagnosed with adhd/odd just within the passed month. I've known they're was an issue for a long time, and I'm kicking myself for not going with my gut and being her help sooner. The Meds she's on don't seem to help... I just want to know.. Does it get better??

My daughter will be 8 in October. We have had issues with tantrums since she was a baby and they said she was too young to have tantrums. We have had her to see therapists and psychologists but haven't found anyone who helps. She had a sensory eval and she has some heat, texture and touch (brushing hair) issues. Another therapist diagnosed her with ODD but no one has mentioned it since. One therapist latched onto trauma from her difficult birth and being adopted (at 1 month old from the same state we will in). She still wets the bed most nights and it doesn't bother her. She will latch onto us when anxious or in a fit. She refuses to do a time out and pushes our buttons until everyone is mad. We try to be firm and consistent but it is so hard when you are trying to get through daily life like getting her to school. The latest psychologist has put it on our parenting skills and reiterates we have to be consistent and have good consequences. We can't learn much more from her-she suggested watching episodes of Supernanny. Now that she is almost 8 I cannot hold her down. She will pull on clothing, hit, scratch, bite, yell, and destroy things around the house. It is definitely exhausting and disheartening. I am a teacher. Can I really be that bad of a parent? I can't believe that. I think we are on our own which is why I joined this group.

My son has Add and Odd and is 10 now. Diagnosed in kindergarten. He has been breaking property when he gets angry. I feel bad for u, as I live this nightmare as well. Medication may help for the Add. It helps our boy. Also a key I think is social skill training and practice. Your relationship has to become close, spending time together. My son tries to push us away at times. That is the time to try to pull him closer with a hug. I recommend Dr Kane on line and Heather Forbes on line. If I figure this out on how to make improvements, I will let u know. We had to find a new therapist since ours moved. I met with her the other day and she will do a lot more with us and him together. I found this reassuring since we feel like we are failing him at times. We are also going to find a new psychiatrist to adjust his meds if need be. His anger has really gotten bad lately: he has destroyed his wall and is beginning to destroy his door again. Then, when he does finally calm down, he is my little angel. The Jeckyl/Hyde routine is exhausting and the triggers are so minor yet explosive. I love my son with all of my heart and wouldn't trade him for anything. I do enjoy when he goes to his grandparents for a sleep-over though...just that one night of silence does wonders! This group is wonderful just to know I'm not alone :)
