Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Support Group
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) an ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior toward authority figures that goes beyond the bounds of normal childhood behavior. When a child cannot seem to control his anger or frustration, even over what seems to be trivial or simple to others, the child will often react in violent or negative ways to his own...

My son was diagnosed with ADHD sept 2012. We did everything to avoid medication. It came to where we had to get him on medicine because he couldn't focus in school and wasn't going to pass kindergarten. At first it was great. It made a huge difference. Well when school ended we took him off the Medicine until a couple weeks before he started 1st grade. Well it just didn't work the same. And he was overly emotional and angry a lot. I took him back to the doctors they switched his adhd med. It works but he was still being really mean with other kids and developed a habit of clawing his brother and other kids if they did or said anything he didn't like. So we went back to the doctor and they put him on risperdal. It's seems to help. I just don't like him being on 2 meds. Especially if it's one of his meds causing his anger and his need for the other med. he is really good when I'm not around. As soon as I walk in he becomes a totally different kid. Like today my mom watched him and he was really good until I walked into her house. Then he started being his usual self and being mean to his brother. Anyone else have that problem where isn't seems like your the only one they are odd with?

My son is 7 and has Odd and Add. He used to do his Odd behaviors, for me. He was usually good with my wife. Now he does some of his behaviors at school and is way better with me now. Our relationship has improved but its not perfect. At 6 he told me he hated me, I cried for 20 minutes it hurt me so much. But we started seeing a counselor for him last March and I have read many books and I had to change. So what worked for me is, staying calm, avoiding power struggles, no yelling, no spanking. Also watch your tone of voice and facial expressions. Don't over-react to anything. Our kids read our words and expressions and react to them, in negative ways. We set up a sticker system at home and at school. He responds better to what he can earn, instead of punishing. I use effective praise and positive reinforcement, and when we have time we practice positive behaviors (so he learns what to do). I also spend a lot of time with my son and I try to nurture him. He now listens to me and does not say the opposite of everything that I say. He blows up less and is more redirect able. I think the book the Karzdin Method, explains everything you need to know, well. Believe me, I wish things were a lot different but I have to start from where we are. My son also takes medication for ADD and that has helped at school. I journal, I pray, and I worry everyday. God Bless you, and I hope that I have helped some.

I have this problem, my folks say my ten yr old is fine when he is with them but when I come around is when he gets agitated and becomes disobedient. He have consist problems at school with authority figures mainly women he doesn't associate with children his own age and getting him to obey at home is like pulling teeth. He does normal ten yr old things kid stuff but when it comes time to face punishment or comply all hell breaks lose. My son started with a mood stabilizer to counteract the aggression but then needed an adhd med and the two contradict each other.
