any success stories

Just wondering...is there anybody out there that has an adult child who had ODD as a child and is now leading a productive life with healthy relationships? Or is that just wishful thinking, and I should resign myself to watching my kid flounder angrily for the rest of his life? I really could use a ray of hope.

I could also use a ray of hope myself. I'm so worried all the time about my son, and even though he has improved over time, he has a long way to go and I'm so worried about his future.

My 19 year old son had a rough childhood from birth. He seemed to scream nonstop. We tried special formulas, etc, but nothing helped. When he was a toddler, he'd scream, throw things, break things, and bang his head. At 2 and a half, he was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD. He always had to do things his way. He did not like anyone telling him what to do. We'd sign up for things- scouts, t-ball, whatever, and after a few practices, he'd refuse to go- screaming, crying, etc.
Around 4th or 5th grade, he stopped the physically aggressive behavior, but would quietly refuse.
Middle school was pretty rough. He was never in trouble, but got bad grades because he chose to only do the work he liked. It seemed like he was always losing privileges.
By sophomore year of high school, things had greatly improved. He responded well to the high school teachers and enjoyed his classes. There were a few exceptions, and these involved teachers who were inflexible.
He is now my favorite of our 4 kids. He is polite, helpful, and sweet. College didn't go well for him, but he has a job and is dependable and hard working. He also helps out with youngest son who is a mess.
Yes, there's hope!!!
