I am a very exhausted mom of a 9 year old little boy that is turning into someone I don't know or even want to be around most days. My husband and I have spend tons of money since he was 5 years old trying to figure why our son was so different from everyone else's child. He melts down over every single thing that doesn't go his way. There is no consequence fitting because he simply cannot conform or adhere to any rules. He argues non-stop and is constantly looking to pick a fight with his younger brother that is 7 years old. We literally feel as though we are in prison without any hope. The only diagnosis we have received after all these different physicians is ADHD and transient ticks. None of the traditional ADHD medication has worked, in fact, they made him more agitated. He's on Intunive and Prozac without much help. He's becoming more violent and verbal the older he gets and I'm wondering anyone's thoughts on Abilify and Risperadol? Multiple psychiatrists have recommended that medication because of how unstable his mood is and how he seems to always be looking for an argument. Just wondering if any of you have any experience with those meds? Thank you in advance, Angela

Wow....it sounds like I wrote the post except my daughter is 9. We are experiencing everything yippy mentioned and more. She takes Vyvanse and they just increased her dosage. We haven't tried the higher dose yet, but for about 5-6 hours of the day, we get to experience the amazing, kind, sweet daughter. It is so apparent when her medicine kicks in and when it wears off. She tortures her 7-year-old sister when she doesn't have the meds kick in but she is extremely protective of her sister and nobody, at any time, can talk bad or mean to her sister, just her. I just got in this site tonight because I'm so afraid I'm going to do something to her which is going to get me in trouble. I love her more than life but I'm petrified that I may end up hating her. I'm here to het Amy help and advice I can het.

I need help. My 8 year old daughter has been diagnosed with ADHD and ODD. She is currently taking adderol which was helping her in school with her grades but we are out of school for the summer and her fits are becoming more and more frequent. She does not like to be told no, I dread mornings, evenings and bedtime (which is the only time she's really home) she will start screaming at the top of her lungs, drool and snot running down her face and shirt, getting in her hair. She starts throwing things and kicking things (she kicked her brother in the face last night) and there is nothing I can do or say to stop it once she starts it. She is seeing a therapist every 2 weeks as well as her doctor. Nothing is helping. I've tried essential oils, medication, we just started a "feelings" journal... I have become to hate motherhood and this is not who I am. I used to love/enjoy spending time with my kids, but it is a daily struggle to enjoy anything anymore. I don't know what to do anymore, I have nobody who understands what I'm going through. Please help

Hi Dana, Can I join? I was thinking of trying supplements for my 14 y/o odd/adhd son (although some believe it's ASD) because it seems like traditional therapy and meds are only somewhat helpful. Thanks!!!

Hello, I have a 10yr old son that has severe ADHD and ODD. I so totally understand what your going through. My son started showing signs of ADHD as early as 18mos. He was way more active than any kid I've ever seen, by age 3 there was absolutely no question he had ADHD. And of course my husband didn't agree he thought our son just needed more discipline and was against any medicine. I finally got to the point that I had to do what was best for my son and take him to the doctor against my husbands wishes which I hated to do but he was so narrow minded about it I didn't have a choice. At that point my son was halfway through kindergarten and struggling bad. My mom went for grandparents day and as soon as she left she called me and said I'm so sorry for not realizing how bad your son struggles with ADHD. You've got to take him to the doctor. So that was my final push and I was so glad I did. We even tried behavioral therapy and no medicine for a while but once he made it to 1st grade and was struggling even worse I said enough is enough. He had already been diagnosed with ADHD and ODD which I New he had the ADHD which I have as well. 27years I went undiagnosed and in all the research I did before taking him to the doctor and talking to his doctor I realized that's why I had always felt different than everyone else and struggled through school and why I talk 90mph lol. But I had never heard of ODD and thought his pediatrician was just trying to add more to his diagnosis until he started listing the symptoms of it and then my jaw almost hit the floor. I was like oh my goodness that totally makes sense. Abilify is a good medicine to help with ODD and the anger issues. Don't put him on risperdol it can make him grow in the chest area if you know what I mean. Abilify works just as good and doesn't have that side effect. Hi! I am new to this site. I am a desperate single mom with an 8 year old son that has been diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, and a mood disorder but I think it's more odd. He is so out of control at school and home. He's on concerta, Prozac, a mood stabilizer, and intuniv. And he is in a day treatment program and nothing seems to be getting better only worse. I don't know what to do with him anymore. I am at my wits end!! Does anyone have any advice or any hope?
