If there was someone who always said that they wished they could fly by flapping their arms, people would probably think the person was insane. Yet a device might, some day, be invented that allows that to happen. Yet so many people walk around with regrets and guilt and not being able to forgive. All these things are the wish for a different past. Quite an insane wish. The wish for a different past is much more insane then the wish to be able to fly by flapping your arms.
I suppose one could build a time machine and go back and change the past, but do you think that we would make a mess of that one? Regardless, the wish for a different past is insanity.
let's say you are walking down the street and someone comes up to you, puts a gun to your head and says "your life or your wallet". most people in these situations feel powerless because they feel they didn't have a choice in the situation. Reality is they did. albeit both crappy choices, but still a choice. the choice was to choose to live and part with the wallet or die refusing. the choice is made by the individual even if they don't think they are making it. that's how life is sometimes the options are many and great.. sometimes the options are crappy and slim. still as long as you own that you are making even these crappy choices, you become powerful and not powerless to at anytime change them. you can stop wishing and whining knowing that you are choosing this whatever for whatever time and for whatever reasons.
instead of bitching about the job you have .. realize you choose to stay in it for whatever reason then no bitching necessary, and thus you can at a later time choose differently.
is that the kind of phrasing you were looking for Yorick?
