Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
Another obsession I had was my glasses prescription. I was scared that no one would ever get it right. I constantly checked if my glasses actually helped and I spent hours researching on how to tell if my prescription is wrong.
After that I developed an obsession with my sexual orientation. I wrote a post about it, so I won't write too much about it here.
After that I briefly developed an obsession with having Tourette's syndrome. That obsession went away fast and I went back to being obsessed with my sexuality.
Next, along the same lines, I thought I had a tapeworm in me for 1.5 yrs. Frickin awful! I was tested 3 times but never believed the negative results, OF COURSE!
-Thought I was balding, used to make my mom check my head
-used to stop breathing every time I'd start to fall asleep cuz I was so focused on my breathing. I thought I was going to die and not wake up. Terrible terrible, I just wanted to be able to SLEEP!
-I thought my parents would die in a car accident every time we were apart (had this fear since I was little little but in college it became an obsession where I would actually check the news for an article :/ )
-I went through a food poisoning obsession, thankfully this only lasted one semester in college cuz if it had lasted longer I would have lost so much more weight. With this obsession I started to enjoy starving myself so it caused other issues....
-I feared I was or was turning gay. this obsession lasted a year the first time and then came back for a second round. Now, not being able to identify yourself or know who you are is the scariest thing in the frickin world!!! The reason I had this obsession was cuz I was in a bad relationship and actually wasn't sexually attracted to my partner, not do to the fact that I was gay but to the fact that I wasn't attracted to how overweight he was and other things about him that were turn offs. I was terrified and felt like I needed him and couldn't live without him. I was confusing love with need. He was my first relationship. That obsession acutally came back for one week after I broke it off with my ex cuz I was like "how can I not be attracted to a man if I am straight?". But then I was like wait no I'm being dumb. That would be ridiculous to be attracted to every man on this earth, I'd be one crazy women. How could I possibly choose just ONE? haha
I was afraid I was gay. Isn't that funny. Didn't remember this until I read what you all wrote.
I am afraid I am going to hurt one of my cats accidentally. Or that one of my meds will make me so mad I will not be able to control myself (doing a lot of med research today).
Can't go to the gym. I am afraid of the time it takes to get ready in the locker room. IOW, the time it keeps me away from my apartment because ....
I am so afraid while I am away someone will break in and hurt and/or let my cats out so I need to be HOME to keep my home safe.
I check and re-check my closets once I do get home to make sure no one is hiding in them. I used to be able to only check once but now it seems to be happening more than that.
I have to sip water in increments of threes.
I have trouble wearing articles of clothing because I am afraid I will spill on them or tear them or in some way ruin them. Once I am done wearing something for the day, I hang it up on a hanger and hang it from my shower rod so it can "stay clean."
I am terrified of dogs and yet I work in the pet food industry performing demos at independent pet stores. When a dog comes in and then another dog comes in I am positive they are going to fight. And a bloody battle at that.
