Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
Without meds, my OCD was like trying to send an email, which could never get through. On meds, my OCD manageable because I take the message, reason it out, thank that part of my brain for being so focused, and then put it on the back burner. I know this happens when my anxiety level has increased, so I go for a walk, do deep breathing, take a nap listening to UCTV, etc.
Sometimes the thought is something to look at from an attachment perspective. I've had abuse in my background, so there are definitely social cues I have a hard time with, namely, close interaction. Having a boyfriend opens up new levels of vulnerability and trust as the relationship goes on. We get to know our deeper truths and practice speaking out in a healthy way, which is sometimes scary, but worth it 'cause that's how we show authenticity.
