Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
If you are obsessing about your body or a body part, you may have BDD (body dysmorphic disorder). One good book to read in that area is "The Broken Mirror" by DR. Katharine Phillips. I am sure there is info online about it.
Not all therapists are competent to treat OCDers and I think who our therapist is makes a HUGE difference whether we improve or not. I had many shrinks waste my time, money and energy.
I had one relationship really eat at me for quite some time. Years after it was over, I thought that my OCD played a big role in how long it took me to get over her. So, the OCD wrecked the relationship and made me obsess over the loss of it. Not fun but even with OCD, in time you will get over her (or him?). Plus, I think when we are hurting, scared, have low self-esteem and feel lonely, we are more apt to think about our ex.
Keep fighting and keep looking for the right therapist and meds that work for you.
