Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.

are any dealing with ocd havin issues with having the needed support from family and professed friends. I realize ocd is illness of dependency. Many times what may began as asking for help here and there may continue on as a ritual. I deal with ocd and agoraphobia and many times b/c of those on the outside of ocd viewing any help as enabling, I live without food and many other needs. I have been on medications and sought out therapy which has not helped. What happens then? I guess you are left on your own b/c no one deems you worthy of help. Ocd is not an illness of laziness as if the person suffering is going to be motivated to get up and perform daily tasks for themeselves b/c no one is their to help them. I know i have had enough of ocd yet I realize i may not ever completely become cured of the illness. If any have had success with managing their ocd (without giving me any gory or graphic details how as i dont want to know) please just let me know.

Did you do therapy with someone trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy? This is the best way to conquer your OCD.

Hey, I have similar problems myself and I am looking for reassurance all the time from others. I am working with an OCD specialist and he has recommended that I not ask for reassurance as that is more of a compulsion. As a result, I have done what he has asked of me and my "reassurance" compulsions have gone down. I too am on meds. which sedate me as well in helping in reducing the intensity of the obsessions. I would also recommend IOCDF that is available online and David D. Burns "Feeling Good" book and his on Panic Attacks is good as well. Eckhart Tolle has also helped me stay in the moment. He is a spiritual teacher that is profoundly powerful in what he says. I hope this helps.... I am here for you and you are in my prayers as well. God Bless You.....

All I know is that you're right about not asking for help from friends. It just drives them away. Even though "taking responsibility" isn't really the issue, it ends up being the solution. I hope you find some relief within yourself soon. Are you in therapy? You might try to find a therapist who really specializes in OCD. I do OK now, though I have my moments.

thank you for all responses. I have been in therapy. I am currently not on any medications and I am making all efforts to find a psychiatrist of whom i am comfortable with. The cbt was NOT for me as I believe going from one extreme to the next is unnecessary, espeically when the extremes are very harsh and unclean. I suffer with severe agoraphobia therefore seeking a psychiatrist is very difficult. I have been in my own therapy as I am employed and have not gone on govt assistance yet coming for work everyday is a challenge. My job is the only place I enter alone as I have no choice. I am saddened I dont have much support from my family. I guess my challenges are to be dealt with GODS help...I know he wont leave me
