Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
One main skill that determine your ocd is the way you think. The best way for me was to contol my reaction to what i hear and see. Be prepared for the trigger, and control your reaction in the few minutes after the trigger. OCDers reaction to triggers isn't good, but the process after the trigger determine the severity of the OCD. When you hear the sentence(trigger) try not to be anxious, rather feel the emotion flow through you. It is vital to relax and stay relaxed. I tell myself that this is just one more symptom and that is the ocd and not me. Stand away, outside yourself and let the ocd run its course after the trigger. Feel the reaction but give yourself the reassurance that you'll be calmer throughout the reaction stage.
Hope this can help. Jerry
