Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
I have found dangerous to act as if my OCD doesn't exist. I'm not sure if affirming that I am OCD free is going to result in something good. It hasn't in the past. I have learned to live with my OCD. I "live in spite of", but I wish I can say that I live without OCD.
Working towards moving beyond OCD is something that many of us find very difficult, so to some of us it's easier to end up denying our OCD instead of focusing on the positives.
I don't deny my OCD. I don't necessarily embrace it or love it, but I have to recognize that it exists in order for me to be able to treat it and actually live a better life in spite of it.
