Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.

Hi- about eight weeks ago, I started taking Prozac for my OCD. It sort of worked and the dr. added Abilify about a month ago. I started feeling a lot better. I have been happier and more optimistic. I really need a new job but I never applied to anything because I was so depressed I didn't see the point at the time. However, this week, I have applied to many jobs and felt confident. Until today. Today was not a good day and I don't know why. I felt like I was getting better until today. At my therapy appointment the other day, I even agreed to wear a pair of jeans that I'm afraid is contaminated at my next appointment. It seemed like an easy thing to do. As of right now, it seems like the worst decision I have ever made. I guess I don't understand how I could be feeling better and then just crash like I did today. While making dinner, I must have washed my hands at least 30 or 40 times. I feel really disheartened and sad. Does this happen to anyone else? Should I just ride it out? Or is it all hopeless?

I feel like OCD can be super unpredictable, but I mean you're still a person and bound to have good days and bad days. From the OCD perspective there are definitely days that are better than others, and you just have to try and ride out the bad patches. Trust me I know it seems hopeless while you're in the middle of it. I hope you feel better soon :).

Yes this is common with OCD. We have good days and bad days. Sometimes premenstrual symptoms can increase OCD symptoms. I could always tell when I was getting my menstrual cycle because my OCD would flare up more. Also anxiety can increase OCD symptoms as well. Good news is that if you felt better once you can feel better again!

Just remember, OCD is not you....it's just that doomsayer that comes up from your subconscious mind. Live in the now....because it's NOW or NEVER......just choose NOW!

It's never hopeless. We can live with ocd and have a good life. When we're down and we realise we failed, we tend to think is our own fault. We're not the monster it's just the ocd talking and making us believe that we're losing the battle. One big thing for me was to let it flow through me. When this happen I take the feelings that come with the ocd but I try not to react to the feelings of the ocd. When I control my reaction I control the ocd. Ocd told me many lies and most if the time I thought it was me. But it was only a symptom if the ocd. The real me was always there but couldn't get the control back. But...when I accepted the ocd as part of me but not as part if the real me I got my control I so desperately needed. When I relax and take the ocd with the best calmness I can, I determine how bad or good I'm going to feel afterwards. When I'm stressed and angry my ocd is worse. When I'm calm my ocd is under control. Acceptance brings control and control brings a better level if living with this. J
