Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
yes OCD is i think an ongoing thing, but we can live normal lives and learn to manage our condition really successfully. another thing that i have talked to my psychologist about and makes me feel better is that everyone has bad, scary and disturbing thoughts sometimes, most people dont have nice positive thoughts most of the time and its normal. the big reason that these thoughts affect people like us with disorders like OCD more is that we have a chemical imbalance that prevents us from rationalising these thoughts, and thats where the obsessive and compulsive behaviour comes in. i think the more we talk about and understand our conditions the easier it gets to deal with them.
with CBT i can live normally, i still have days where i worry more, and i still obsess about things, but with the techniques i have learnt it doesnt effect me as much or for as long. i think when my mind is least obsessive or "normal" is when i am immersed in doing something i love and just staying busy. like i am volunteering at a dog shelter, and helping others i have found is so powerful in making me feel better. also exercising and doing my art, going out dancing and watching movies, even work it all helps.
another thing that helps me is to think going through what i have with anxiety, depression and OCD i dont think i would change it, because i think i have become a more compassionate person through my experiences and am better equipped for helping others. i have also learnt to be more open minded and less judging and am still learning things about myself and others.
humour is another thing that really helps me, i feel empowered and comforted when i can laugh at my OCD, and black comedy always cheers me up i dont know if you like shows like south park, family guy and the simpsons etc. but they kind of give me the feeling that everything is going to be ok.
i hope something here helps matey

Regardless, I just remember that because I have a disorder doesn't mean it gets to take my happiness away. I'm going to live my life, it belongs to me not my ocd.
If it is a chemical imbalance, I hope they find a way to balance it out haha, that's actually part of what I'd like to research someday.
