Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
I know in the medical field Tourette's Syndrome isn't considered a form of OCD, but in all my research and experiences, that's exactly what is seems like it is. To me.
A tic is like an impulse to do something specific, in a specific way, to make it feel a specific way. If it's not done EXACTLY like it NEEDS to be done, then it has to be done until it feels RIGHT. My son also says he can't think if he doesn't tic. And to me, that sounds a little OCD. But, I'm not a doctor and I don't have OCD, so it's only my opinion.
I'm going to post this in the Tourette's group as well, since I know the two are highly co-morbid.
