Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
What you mention sounds very common for those with OCD, not that it makes it fun to think those things by any means! It can definitely be disturbing to have those thoughts about our loved ones! OCD preys on our deepest fears and insecurities - the fact that you're obsessing about hurting your family probably just shows how much you'd never want to do that.
Funds are scarce with us too, so I've never sought treatment for my OCD (although I might soon). I found a lot of good books at the library on the topic that even gave you exercises to complete to treat your OCD. The biggest help for me is just to acknowledge that I've had those thoughts, not feel guilty about them, and then just move on (it kind of takes the wind out their sails so to speak). I had a major flare up a couple of weeks ago and I ran across this website with suggestions - it said to assign certain times throughout the day to obsess over things. So when my intrusive thoughts came up, I'd say "I'll think about that at 8:15" or whenever. Doing that did help. OCD is quite the crafty ailment and it always takes new forms, but applying a variety of methods can lessen its affects. Good luck to you!
I actually do have a doc appt for Tuesday, and I will tell him how anxious I have been feeling. Even though he isn't a therapist, maybe, just maybe, he could give me something for it. I just want to be normal again!
I fully understand how hard you have been through. You have to confess it to your husband. It will lessen the burden. let the doctor explain it to him so that he will understand. This is highly treatable most specially with the help of the family.
