Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
Just like Stonehenge said......Habit. We are negative thinkers. We were born that way. We have done it all our lives and it is as automatic as breathing. So even if nothing is wrong, we still think as though it is. We are always waiting for the shoe to drop. But just because we were born this way, that doesn't mean we can't change it. Start becoming a positive thinker. Even if you don't believe what you are saying. Change your thoughts. Break the habit. Eventually your brain will catch up and start relaxing and shut off the adrenaline and you won't be on "scan" all the time.
I guess it sounds simplistic, but it really is that easy. It takes time but it does work.
Thank you Lilygirl. I have low blood sugar symptoms and that also releases a lot of adrenaline (probably a chicken and egg scenario!)
:)
I think CBT would be a helpful form of treatment for these thought processes, to learn how to take comfort in the moments when we do not have to be stressed, nervous, or scared.
