A sidenote on doctors as a person my size...I really, deeply resent the doctor who barely listens to my concern only to somehow tie whatever issue I have to my weight. Of course there can be a connection, but don\'t overlook potentially serious diagnoses by looking my body up and down in a glance and summing it up that I "just need to lose weight".
Seeing a rectal doctor is usually the best way to go as they are more helpful in detecting the problem.
I have never heard of this occurring in obese people. I have not had it, nor has my mother or grandmother, who are both also obese.
It kind of sounds like another one of those situations of a doctor blaming obesity for every health related issue from digestive problems to mortal ailments (despite the fact that numerous people with diabetes, heart disease, etc are actually fairly slim and just don't watch their eating). I swear doctors would blame obesity for nose bleeds and killing puppies, if they could find the most remote 'evidence'.
That being said, you might benefit from, as others have suggested, finding a second opinion. this does not just sound like something 'just caused by being overweight'. And it would probably be best for your peace of mind to know for sure.
They are taking my insurance 8/17 and the medicare would help. You would not believe some of the quotes I have been given! One was $5,000 deductible and $902 per month.
