Obesity and Job Interviewing

I am in the market for a new job because I will be laid off in 6 weeks and I have to say I am very worried about interviewing for a job. I am 6ft 380 and i have an interview at a bank. I hate to say this buy im tempted to cancel the interview. I know it sounds terrible but I think they will take one look at me and be disgusted. I don't want to count myself out but on the same hand I feel like I'm worthless. Also I don't want to kick myself later down the road when I have no job and think "what if". Honestly I feel horrible about myself. I've been working remotely for the past 3 years so none of my co workers have seen me.

Can so understand your need to cancel that interview but why not go with no expectations of getting the job - every interview is a learning experience and the more you go to them the more practice you will get. If you are worried about how you look then dress your very best, get your nails done (nails always show a person cares about themselves), great hair, jewellery (not too much), make up and then your crowning glory: a wonderful smile. Look so great and project a calm confidence in talking about your experience and abilities knowing that it doesn't matter if you don't get this job because you did your best. Good luck.

I would say go for it. Get your self esteem high and go with confidence. If you don't get the job don't take it personel. Consider it nothing loss, nothing gain. We don't know until we try. Do not be so hard on yourself. We are all equal and just be yourself. My best to you.

I have been through the same experience more than once in my lifetime. Self-esteem is such an elusive creature! You've been offered some great advice and support here. Hoping you will go and GET THE JOB!

It could have been me writing this post a few years ago, only add age to the mix! It can be very discouraging when you look differently from how people want you to look. But, your resume or cv must have caught their eye for some reason, so you definitely have something they want! Plus, you are a male and even though you are overweight it is less of a social sin for guys to be large than it is for girls. I agree with Laraine, get yourself primped and manicured so they don't notice your size. Think about your accomplishments and your abilities, do the homework on the company, focus on why you are there. Don't let your size be an issue for YOU. Go to the interview. There are a million reasons people don't get hired. Think of the interview as practice to do better at other interviews because you may go to many unfortunately.

I was never that big but it still worried me at times being nearly 300 at one point. It never seemed to get in the way of getting jobs for me.
