Speaking from experience, I know it is very tough to lose weight when you are suffering any kind of depressive illness. I had to tackle my depression first and it has taken me a good couple of years to get myself feeling strong enough to try losing weight again - silly as it sounds. It all hangs on a thread...
Don't purge - you will be adding another problem to your list. Take each day as it comes and try to make choices that are good for your body and soul. I found that simply starting to cut down for a few months has helped as it stopped me gaining weight until I was ready to start losing it.
I know just what you mean whn you say you would rather be dead than living this way. It will be the depression speaking - what my therapist calls 'dark thoughts' caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. Its the chemicals talking! If you think you are going in to a depression, do go and get help. You know you have much to live for really and you know that somewhere inside you in the strength to see yourself through this.
