Hello all, I am 52 and weigh 314. I am currently on a job search but I am so hesitant in going to an interview. My biggest fear is upon walking in and their first mental reaction would be "Wow! she is huge". Many years ago during an interview for a file clerk. The interviewer told me that I would be on the floor and she did not think I could do the job. Now she never told me because I was fat, but I knew what she was getting to. I have been umemployed now for 4½ years. Restarting a new makes me so anxious because of the fear of being rejected due to my weight. Being overweight gives one a less of snapping a job. I have been attending a Weight Management from my local hospital. So far I went down from 331 to 314. I am Type 2 Diabetic and my A1C went from 9.8 to 7.8 and continue working on that.

I never attended to be this size but I did. I never "felt" fat until I began developing the effects of it.

Has anyone had their Obesity hinder your life like putting it on hold, stopped being in public, refuse to go on a job interview etc.

Hi AngelPie: I am retired, but when I was working all my co-workers were all different shapes and sizes. In fact their size never entered into the picture. It was their inner qualities that stood out. Like how nice they were and how willing to help others. I worked in a hospital and it was customer relations that was important. So, don't let this hold you back. Apply for everything that you would like and take it from there. In the meantime, continue your healthy habits and take one day at a time and you will obtain your goals. Be confident and stay motivated and keep a positive attitude. Remember you got this.

In my case, my weight hinders me from trying new things or going places - I am blessed with a (so far) very stable job, but I understand your fears. There is such a thing as weight prejudice. But honestly, if you get called to an interview, just go. You won't know until you go - don't let any rejections past or present stop you from trying. Dress your best for the job you are applying for and try to show confidence (fake it if needed). Smile and try to show some of your personality. I find when I interview people, that the more nervous they are, they less likely I can get an idea of their personality and whether they will be a good fit for our company. Those who can show me some of what makes them who they are are more likely to get more of my attention - it's not about looks, but about who they are as a person plus their skills. Try not to get discouraged. Sounds like you are doing great! It's such a slow process. I personally am having a ton of trouble finding the motivation and energy to stick with an eating and exercise plan. Good luck!

Hello Darling!!! Trying to get a new job should be a new and exciting adventure, if you are really ashamed of your weight there´s a lot of things you can do to change that. From doing a diet or exercise or a bariatric surgery..... have you ever considered this last one?
