The author lost a lot of weight...and he has some interesting things to say.
One thing he talks about is how we have emotional reasons to hold on to the weight. He talks about how it is very difficult to rationally talk ourselves out of these emotional forces.
He recommends doing some very simple meditative exercises to put ourselves in a special frame of mind...a frame of mind in which we can possibly change some of the underlying factors that make and keep us fat.
One issue he gets into is "being safe". A lot of us seem to feel safer fat. For whatever the reason, it "shields" us from perceived threats. One of the meditations focuses a lot on feeling safe.
I haven't gotten very far in the book yet, but I have tried the first exercise, and it really relaxes me! I do it before sleep, and I can't get all the way through usually before I AM asleep. I suffer from insomnia due to anxiety at times, so I am very impressed with how that is working! I guess I'm supposed to do it sitting up, so I'll try that..
Missina and others have some great discussions that explore why we don't and do want to lose weight. You might check those out and see if some of them strike home with you....
Wishing you strength, hope, and courage to battle this problem!
hope it helps
Ps: feeling safe and being fat, i think maybe it could be one of the reason, i will check the book out
