Tell us about your personal experience with Gastric Bypass Surgery as a treatment: Has it worked? Have you had any issues? Any recommendations or tips?

There is a GB community. It's a very serious option and you might want to include those with Lap-Band surgery too.

I'm a gastric bypass patient and my experiences have been wonderful -- my surgery date was 9/29/03 and I've lost 115 lbs --- my health has improved tremendously and I just keep getting younger every day.

My RNY was laproscopic and such a great success.

Aren't you like our Creator?? LOL! Every one has questions! I am a member of the Gastric Bypass Surgery community on here too!
Any way, I am on track to have a laparoscopic Roux en Y Gastric Bypass done sometime this fall. Right now I am doing paper work and getting the tests and stuff finished. the tests are stuff like Psych evaluation, and cardio-pulmonary to see if I am in good enough shape to survive the surgery. Just for the record I am in really good shape! I'm just really BIG about it!
For some the surgery isn't an option because it isn't always covered by insurance and it can cost upwards of $40.000 us dollars. That is without complications.
There is ALOT of other info one needs to have to understand the choices of Gastric Bypasses (there are 20+ different types to choose from) And whether to have the surgery or try something else less risky.

I'm not a good canidate for the surgury options because I do not heal well. Even if I did heal well, I don't think I would opt for it simply because it is such a drastic measure to surgically alter your digestive system. For those who do opt for it, I wish you well!

I'd go to some of the GB and Lap-Band forums on the web. People all have different comments. For some it was a lifesaver, some had complications, and some do gain some of the weight back over time. My neighbor lost a ton of weight, but due to she drinking alcohol has gained about 50 pounds back. You have to be very careful not to drink fluids with empty calories.

I had a bypass three years ago and I can tell you that it is just a tool to loose weight, but the hard work comes from yourself by avoiding the food that damage us and controlling the portion size.
I just realized this after gaining back 120 pounds after the surgery. Also it is very important to keep up with the vitamins because I had a bad anemia that almost ends in blood transfusion.
