Obesity Support Group
This community is dedicated to those of us struggling with obesity. Obesity is thought to be a significant risk factor in certain health conditions, leading to increased mortality. Find the support you need by sharing your story, asking questions, and learning from others on how they have coped.
Also do you eat certain foods or just anything? If there are foods you are likely to comfort eat then try not to buy them in the first place.
Don't compare yourself with your son. He is a different person and may not have the same issues you have. In any case men lose weight in different ways than women just as they gain weight differently. And comparisons are never a good idea, they only make you feel miserable which will tempt you to eat.
I think it may not be a good idea to 'discipline' yourself and eat the same thing. Discipline has negative connotations and will make you feel worse about yourself which may trigger more eating. Also if you eat the same it is boring, again it may trigger eating just for a change if nothing else especially since you admit the eating may be boredom-related.
Why not look at the range of different foods you can eat and stay within your calories? Are there any fruit and veg you like? What about berries or exotic fruits like kiwi or mango? Or one thing I have heard is keeping grapes in the freezer and having one or two when you have sweet cravings. Try to keep things different and eat things you like.
If you are financially motivated, then maybe you could put the money you might have spent on junk food into a piggy bank or bank account and save for something expensive. Or have a 'loyalty card' like a coffee shop where you award yourself a stamp each time you resist temptation and at ten stamps you get a treat of your choice.
