Does anyone else have the problem where those that should be most supportive aren't? For example, my mother calls me fat at least ten times a day like I forget. I don't need her to keep telling me. Am I wrong for feeling this way?

your mom might believe she is using tough love asnd that is suppose to help you. or she could just be mean. sometimes i think people don't don't know what you want from them when you are for support. Just tell her what you need. Hope she listens and yes i have dealt with it to my grandpa once asked if he could use my swim suit as a tarp for the camper

Noooo, of course you are not wrong for feeling this way. I don't know about you, but when people say things to me related to what I should be eating or being fat, it just makes me eat more - perhaps you could ask your mother to consider that (if it applies)

I think it is terrible your mom has to say these things on a constant basis. It certainly is not supportive nor if she thinks it is supposed to encourage and get you motivated I would hope she can realize that is just doing the exact opposite. I defintely think you should have a chat with her and very kindly but firmly let her know if she can't say anything nice to please keep her opinions to herself. Remember you are the one in control of yourself and who you let into your life and effect you. If she can't be supportive in a good way sometimes it is best to let that person know they are not welcome in your life until they can learn the value of somebody's feelings and most of all their life and understand that we are put on this earth for a short period of time and one should enjoy the time spent together. I hope she will listen to what you have to say good luck and hugggsssss to you:)

I feel you on this issue. People who aren't fat, never been fat, or the self righteous ones that have lost the weight and feel that others should be able to do it too, act as if those of us who are fat want to be this way. If it were easy to lose weight, none of us would have this problem. I left my family because of non support of anything, and because I felt that I have been mistreated all my life. I'd rather not be around people who are always putting me down, I do enough of that myself and I'm trying to change that behavior and accept that I am fat and it will take time and be a challenge to lose weight. I'm doing what I know how to do. If I mess up, I'm human and I will start over again. Bottom line, I refuse to be around people who intentionally or unintentionally hurt me because the hurt doesn't just go away, it stays there a really long time. It also confirms the doubts that you may or may not already have about yourself. We should surround ourselves with people and things that make us feel better about ourselves. Life is too short to sulk over any issue, especially what others think of us.

Hell no you're not wrong for feeling others (especially your mother) should be most supportive. While I'll agree that she could be feeling as though she's using tough love techniques on you it's just down right rotten what's she doing. I say confront her and if that doesn't work I personally would share her methods by insulting one of her flaws so she can SEE how it makes you feel. Eh, maybe that's not a good idea...maybe that's why my mother and I bump heads a lot, lol. Good luck!

I have a feeling your mother isn't the only one who you bump heads with, but somehow I can easily picture you and your mother at it LOL

One of the biggest challenges you will have in your life is caring for yourself while loved ones are being cruel. You are not alone believe me. I am 51 and my mother can still say cruel things. But she is who she is and I have learned to accept her for who she is. If she gets out I line, I wll let her know this is a kind way. Just take care of yourself. You count, you matter, you are worth taking care of. You want to lose weight for you so don't let anyone's tongue stop you. Don't let anyone have power over you-----------You got the power :)
