Obesity Support Group
This community is dedicated to those of us struggling with obesity. Obesity is thought to be a significant risk factor in certain health conditions, leading to increased mortality. Find the support you need by sharing your story, asking questions, and learning from others on how they have coped.
As far as the general public is concerned. I get looked at all the time where i live. Most of it is from awe, some is from disgust. I enjoy and say thank you for the compliments and for the most part those who don't care for it keep their mouths shut, which is for the best. I don't personally like looking at morbidly obese people myself, but i don't judge them because i have no clue what their story is and whether or not they want to be that way is neither my business nor my decision.
It infuriates me when that happens to me. I feel like saying, "Go pick on someone else. I've already lost 100 lbs.!" But actually no matter what I weighed at any time in my life, people seemed to pick on me.
Did you ever think that maybe some people are ENVIOUS of something you have or they think you have? For example, I am 64 and 3 years ago moved into a bldg. where a lot of the women are quite elderly. It didn't take long for these biddies to start criticizing my weight. Maybe they are envious of my (relatively speaking) YOUTH? Also, I still have a mother living (she's 91). They don't. Something else I have that inspires envy.
The Bible says "Anger is bad enough, but before envy, who can stand?" Sometimes I wish I could wipe the earth clean of envious, gossipy, critical, empty-headed women, but of course I can't. Just gotta live with it.
That being said I have to say a lot has to do with confidence. And as Brokensun said we are much more likely to notice slights against our-self rather than another person.
Be proud of who you are Donna and ignore the ignorant whenever possible.
Don't let them get to you. I too have this problem and sometimes it can ruin a perfectly good day. People who judge others will one day be hudged themselves and only then will they understand the hurt they have caused.
Peace be with you friend.
