Obesity Support Group
This community is dedicated to those of us struggling with obesity. Obesity is thought to be a significant risk factor in certain health conditions, leading to increased mortality. Find the support you need by sharing your story, asking questions, and learning from others on how they have coped.
There are also many people in this group as well as other groups that have had the surgery done and can give you a lot of valuable advice. Even going back and reading some of the past threads can be helpful.
As for other alternatives the best advice I can give you is movement. I know how extremely hard it is to be active when you are in a lot of pain and get tired quickly as well as out of breath. Again talking to a doctor about exercise is probably the best way to start. Finding people in your area that are also trying to lose weight is another option to consider because having friends or even just one person to work out with can help you stay motivated to change your life style and the way you do things to a much healthier way.
There are so many diets out there and some work great But I think you have to find what works best for you. Depriving yourself of everything considered bad for you probably won 't work as most tend to say screw this and then really pig out lol. For myself I made a list of all the things I like including junk food and healthy foods. The next thing I learned was portion sizes and purchased plates that have sections in them to really learn how much a helping of something really was.
I also had to learn not to be so impatient with myself because the weight does not come off fast at all. But I started focusing more on what I could do rather then what I could not do and this seems to help me. Even little things like walking to the mail box down the road without getting out of breath or being able to carry something up steps was a huge accomplishment. It really surprised me that by just adding activity to my days how much stronger I have become.
I did not focus on weighing myself everyday nor even once a week. I weigh myself when I am feeling good and I know it sounds funny but I weigh myself when I feel thinner. In doing that I have found that I have always lost some pounds. It doesn't matter if it is one pound or 10. In all aspect I work more on becoming stronger and being able to do what I use to be able to do rather then get discouraged that I didn't lose 20lbs.
Whatever alternative you decide to do it will require you to change your lifestyle so that is something you as I have found out have to be really willing to do. I found that hanging around people I feel comfortable with helps me a great deal in building myself esteem and helps keep me motivated to keep going. It also helps chase away those nasty depression blues that invade our thoughts and make us feel like what is the use.
Anyway I hope this helps a bit for you and I have no doubt that you will get healthier and stronger when you are ready. Hang in there and know that you are not alone in this world in trying to lose weight.:)
