I have pretty severe, painful neuropathy in both feet and calves. It started as a result of a serious low back injury called cauda equina syndrome. I cannot feel my feet and have a "foot drop" in one leg (I can't raise my toes up so my foot drags if I don't wear a brace). Tecnhically, the problem is not in the nerves in my feet, but in my low back where the nerves start. I take a high dose of Neurontin (1200mg three times a day) plus 50mg of norttriptylene at bedtime, and it helps but doesn't completely mask the painful tingling and shooting pains.
Anybody else with this problem? I'm wondering if anyone has found a better treatment.
thanks,
Caren

I have a bulging disk in my back causing neuropothy in both my feet only. They feel like they are on fire to me and the shooting pains really piss me off. If i take Lyrica it really helps with those shooting pains a lot. I also take naproxin (anti-inflamatory) to prevent my back from making it worse. I take percoset for y back pain and usually it helps with the neuropothy only in that i so hopped up i dont care i think. But the lyrica does help more than the neurontin did for me.

I have bulging disk in back. I guess it is what is causing my neuropathy in my legs and feet. But it also feels like i have it in my arms, but they only tested my legs for nerve damage, which is worse on right side. Im trying to get on neurontin even tho im scared it will make me worse like the lyrica did. I take 150mg of nortritylyne at bedtime it dont do a thing for pain except helps my daily headaches. At night my feet feel like someone ran them over with a pickup, and my toes are getting harder and harder to move. Hydros dont touch the nerve pain. They dont help much of any pain. Sigh. i dont know what will help us, lets hope they make a miracle drug soon.
