Hello... Ralop here... I'm not sure if these symptoms are neurological as I do not have a regular neurologist yet. My PCP is knowledgeable, but specializes in tummys, not nerves. These symptoms are new in just the recent 4-8 wks. The original injury to the lower lumbar is 25 yrs ago. However, the chronic pain, rapid degeneration, and loss of mobility is 6 yrs continuous this coming August. There is some nerve damage occurring because of one disc being collapsed & ruptured, & the nerve is protruding outside the laceration of the rupture and is irritated almost constantly.
There is also a lot of arthritis.
I have experienced many different types of pain with this problem from sharp, cutting, sawing, hatchet or knife, boiling hot or freezing cold, squishing pressure, and all types of muscle spasm or ripping, tearing feeling, all of these at different levels of severity. The most painfull is a combination of nerve and muscle that feels a lot like the labor pains we women experience when birthing our children and is in the same general area of the lower back. Unlike the birthing process which is over and the labor pains coming and going in intensity, this only continues to increase in pain level and the darn baby never comes. I have often expressed my labor as being less difficult to endure because it eventually ends. :) :)
This new symptom is a pressure without any severe type of correlating pain. However it does seem to come on after I have had a physically
busy time of it. (which doesn't take much these days)
I will be walking along normally and I will feel a pressure feeling in my lower back directly in the injury area. It is not accompanied with any painfull symptom, only a pressure. Then it feels as if my body and brain are not successfully connected anymore. As if I must consciously think about how to walk to make my foot and leg take the next step. Then it feels as if the whole connection is gone and my body from the waist down is gonna be gone and my legs are going to buckle and I'm going down.
This all happens within seconds and within the movement of a step ot two.
At that point I have stopped and I am really worried about the fact that it is happening then fear and panic set in.
If I must keep moving I stand holding on to whatever is next to me and attempt to take another step or continue with what I was trying to do.
The last time this happened it did not stop and I had to go lay down to stop the symptom.
So... I guess I'm looking for anyone who's had the same experience ,and or, who may know what it is that is happening. I feel less panic when I understand what is going on physically and if I know that it is not serious. I am not excited if I am going to lose the ability to walk or feel my body from the waist down.
The nuerosurgeon said nothing was that bad... but that was over 2 years ago, and there's no new MRI since then.
Sorry I'm so long winded.... I have a difficult time expressing with words what the symptoms feel like.
Thanks for any info or commradery in advance.

I have pretty severe stenosis in my low back, and I get a building pressure feeling that is a result of this. (Stenosis is when there isn't enough space for the spinal cord due to swelling and degeneration.) Does the pain improve when you bend over or sit down? Both movements stretch out your vertebrae, giving your spinal cord more room.
