Disc migration, nerve entrapment and bone fragment

Hi all,



So about a year ago I started experiencing some very uncomfortable leg/back pain. At first I thought I had pulled a muscle around the area again as I had done some years ago. Only this time it was shooting down to my knee whenever I moved in certain positions or drove for an extended period of time. I had a CT scan and they found minor bulges in 2 discs and slight scoliosis (which they said was quite common).


A year later, the pain hits with a vengence getting rapidly worse on a daily basis, yet I couldn't afford to take time off work so I power through and try to stick to light duties where I can (which wasn't always). Eventually it got to a point where I was losing sleep due to discomfort, adopted an irritating limp, intermittent pain became constant and excruciating, and tingling became numbness. After a 2nd CT, ED visit, hospital stay and MRI, they found more than 2 discs had migrated, sciatica and other nerves were being entrapped and at high risk of damage along with a piece of bone fragment which had dislodged from my lumbar spine (I found this the most intriguing).



So yeah any advice or similar experiences would be great to hear/learn from!

Which discs, in the Lumbar spine? Bone fragments are common, not very good when they get near the spinal cord though.
The surgeons will not usually do surgery unless it is causing a lot of nerve damage, or problems with urination and bowel movements. They have found in the past, that they ended up making more pain.
Have you tried acupuncture? I get that every other week. Reality of alternative treatments, nothing helps very much... I am even on a anti-inflammation diet, it is vegan and gluten and dairy free. It has helped some, but the diet is killing me, all those beans! ;)

Hey, yeah it's the L4/L5/S1 that have migrated and narrowed the nervous tract, it's actually a disc fragment I've recently found out but in any case it's starting to impede on the cauda equina, thankfully it hasn't progressed too far but a private specialist suggested I have a procedure to get rid of the fatty tissue and fragment around the trapped sciatic nerve. I wanted to try acupuncture but my usual massage place lost their acupuncture guy. How long did you find it took to get the benefits of diet change, that's been a slow process for me I'm a bit overweight atm so maybe I'll give the anti-inflammatory diet a go! The only other options is an $800 cortisone injection or just letting it get worse... Hope you get better soon too man :)
