ME TOOOOOOOO!!!!
at 39 i have finally realized that i have basically been dating my mother throughout all the abusive, codependent, emotionally unavailable relationships i have been in. finally, at my wits end with yet another heartbreak, i got the divine message to "break up" with my mother. i approached her with validation, love, tact, all the right things. her reaction led me to see the emotionally unavailable, narcissistic, abusive, invalidating, and selfish person she was. realizing this made me lose it. i even did something, an intentionally hurtful behavior, to someone that i care for deeply. i had never done this to anyone before. it was a total trauma response that i think happened because i was finally allowing myself to feel what i had repressed for my entire life. i am also very empathic, but as it turns out, i am very good at blocking my own emotions.
i too feel very alone. most people i have turned to have been supportive to a point, and then expected me to get over it. it's not that these people are not friends anymore, but they are not people i feel close with anymore.
i also felt angry with myself at first, but i realized that there are so many people out there with parental wounds (my own mother included) who either refuse to acknowledge them and work it out, or are so oblivious that they will never discover that they even have this wound and will continue to find themselves in abusive and/or abusing situations forever. so even though it hurts like hell, i am personally grateful that i have gotten to this point where i have found the wound that needs healing, so that i can actually work toward healing it. my hope is that you might be getting to that point, too, now.
