Mine scratched his face, told the police I did it and I was arrested for domestic assault and battery. All I can say is be careful, he could be setting you up. There is no behavior that surprises me when it comes to an N. They are cunning!

I will truly feel like I've been released from prison once I am free from this crazy man. He is getting worse as he gets older. We went to couples therapy 3 times this summer, but it didn't help. He only lied to the therapist.

It's encouraging to hear you are doing well after your divorce. I'm sorry he put you through such an unnecessary difficult time. They just like to inflict pain on us, even if it means literally hurting themselves.

We went to three marriage counselors. The therapy stopped when he felt that the therapist was getting closer to seeing the person he really was. Besides being a lawyer with a background in criminal science, he also had a minor in psychology. I didn't stand a chance with this nut.

Divorce is never easy and I suffered such pain getting rid of him. I can honestly say that I am better but I still have panic attacks. Hopefully, those will be gone in time. As you said, they have to inflict pain.

Other than framing their spouses or partners in some sort of criminal intent, I googled this scenario online, and it seems that many times people who self injure themselves are having moments of intense emotions. The website I was reading from said hitting themselves is a coping method. Lots of times it indicates shame. So the sites said anyway.

I don't know. My NH usually doesn't exhibit any kind of shame. Who knows what rattles around inside his twisted mind.

wow, that sounds really weird. My exn was plenty self destructive, but I never saw him do anything like that.

Another odd thing he does when he's angry (having a rage) is clap his hands together very hard and loud, as he yells and curses. He has never done this sort of thing before. Only in the last few months. I don't know what to make of it, but I'm very concerned. I spoke to my therapist about it, but she just shook her head and looked puzzled. Never heard of such an odd thing. Makes me a bit uneasy being in the same room with him. :-/

This doesn't sound good at all. Is it possible he could be doing drugs or drinking? Could he have a mental illness that he can't hide anymore?? I'd keep a journal of his strange behaviors for your counselor. Please be safe!

Sounds like the tantrums some little kids have . . . when they sit and hit their head agaisnt the wall repeatedly. Neither my kids nor my husbands ever did this kind of thing . . . .but if you have a peds doctor that you can ask, you might get clarification on why kids do this and how parents should work to stop it . . could help in figuring out why your N does it. Just a thought.

I think Quepasa is dead on. It's a temper tantrum! Any attention is better than no attention. IT used to do things to hurt himself, hurt his hand by punching the garage door...he wanted my sympathy, desperately. They like playing the victim, I think this plays right into it. I guess it doesn't seem so weird to me, it seems more like par for the course in the life of an N. He'd speed off into the night, peeling out of the driveway tell me stories of how he'd almost been run over during the day crossing the street...almost fell off a mountain while hiking, always some dangerous situation where he could have died. He once told me he had prostrate cancer, I'll spare you the details...needless to say, for a scientist, I thought it was pretty funny when I looked up the symptoms and realized it was easy to see that they were NOT symptoms of prostrate cancer.. All for sympathy. When I think of all the drama, I'm so glad not to be subjected to this anymore. It was always a pity party for him. So pathetic. Sometimes, I wonder where in the stage he is with his current GF and what torment she is experiencing now that they live together.

I so relate. My NH once screamed at me because I won't take him to the emergency room when he had a splinter in his big toe. Can you believe that?

After about 15 min. of his tirade, he calmed down enough to allow me to take the splinter out.

What an idiot!!! What a big baby!!! . . . the same old "all about me" nonsense.

my ex narcissist started hitting himself and talking to himself after we moved in together about a year after we were dating. He became insanely emotionally abusive and if anything didn't go his way he would hit himself in the head. He also would rock back-and-forth on the couch just hitting himself in the head. I can fronted him and ask him what was going on and tried to stop him from hitting himself but it was like I wasn't even there as he just continued to talk to himself. I worry so much for the new person that is his supply because she has no idea what she's getting herself into.
