For those learning about or recovering from narcissistic abuse.

My mother is definitely a narcissist. She doesn't think she is, but she is. Throughout my life, my mother has said and done things that were very hurtful towards me and other family members and she doesn't think she did anything wrong. No remorse whatsoever. She does or says whatever comes to mind without thinking if it is hurtful to others.
An example of this was when I was 13, so about 5 years ago. I was at the mall with my dad and my soon-to-be stepmom. I was trying on heels just for fun and I tried on this pair of purple heels which I thought were cute. My dad did the right thing and he said "They are cute, but I don't think that they're appropriate for someone your age." And I understood. I wasn't hurt at all by what he said. He took a picture because I wanted to show my mom since purple is her favorite color. When we got back from the mall, we showed her the picture and she got mad and said "Why on Earth were you wearing hooker shoes? No daughter of mine is going to wear hooker shoes." The way I interpreted that was that if I wore those shoes, I was no better than a hooker. It hurt a lot and I stormed away from her and she got all upset/confused, wondering what I was so upset about.
Here's another example. After my parents split, we all still went out to dinner every other week to give me and my brothers a feeling of normalicy. At the time, my dad was considering getting custody of my brothers and I and my dad mentioned it to me. I felt that I needed to get it off my chest and I told my best friend at the time and I told her not to tell anyone. My friend's mom is friends with my mom. To make a long story short, my friend told her mom who told my mom and when did my mom find out? When we are out to eat. At a busy restaurant. She got mad at me since I didn't tell her and she made a huge scene in front of everyone. This was also at the time when my depression and anxiety episodes were very severe. I ran into a bathroom stall and had a full blown anxiety attack in the bathroom. My soon-to-be stepmom was also there (thank goodness) and she had to coax me out of the stall. Then my mother hugged me and pretended like she didn't just blow up at me in front of 50+ people.
Whenever I try to talk about the things she has said or done, she convieniently "forgets" that she did or said anything. When I try to talk about how she made me feel, she gets defensive and upset saying things like "well I was taught to speak my mind" or "well I can't help that you feel that way." (Btw, she was not taught to speak her mind. My grandma told me herself.) I can't tell you how many times I have considered cutting ties with her completely because of how much she has damaged our relationship. We barely even have one and she is all confused about why we aren't that close. Maybe if she actually considered how her actions have hurt me and actually cared about how others feel, she would know why.
Stacy is the daughter of a narc mom and gets it! She's also a therapist whose clients are only adults of narcissistic parents because she wants to help others like herself. She gives such great advice and is no BS. Hope it helps!
