I attended a 6 week pain clinic program. They had us start each day with Tai Chi. I felt emotional calmness and it didn't effect my body negatively. I've also read studies that it's supposed to help fibro patients. That being said, MPS hits everyone differently and maybe it's not the thing for you.

Tai chi is like any form of exercise in that it has low impact and high impact forms. I bet you were doing something with a high impact, even if it was billed as being gentle. That's just because it's gentle in comparison to things like bikram yoga.
