Myofascial Pain Syndrome Support Group
Myofascial Pain Syndrome (or MPS) is a term used to describe one of the conditions characterized by chronic pain. It is associated with and caused by "trigger points" (TrPs), sensitive and painful areas between the muscle and fascia. The symptoms can range from referred pain through myofascial trigger points to specific pains in other areas of the body. It may be related...
When MPS/CMP hits a certain level we *do* all need pain relief to be able to function day to day and withstand treatment to reduce the impact of it, etc.
But there are alternatives, best discussed with your doctor, but include tramadol, amytriptaline / nortryptaline or dihydrocodeine. How you take the medication makes a difference, too, splitting to dose across the day versus taking it either all in the morning or all in the evening or night-time. There is an excellent flow chart on pain medication at http://www.painclinic.org/aboutpain-analgesicflowchart.htm
How are you? Please share an update. How did the gabapentin work for you?
Tramadol is a prescription medication. Compared to other pain meds, it's probably the weakest strength and least likely to build up a tolerance. Again, it helps many people and some not at all. This is all hit or miss and that's what makes it so frustrating. I hope you are doing well.
I never tried 'too hard' to get used to this group of nerve pain pills because they're such 'hardcore' meds and I've heard of too many bad reactions. I only ever tried a few doses and stopped pretty quickly after bad reactions.
Are you getting relief for your TMJ pain and problems?
