Myofascial Pain Syndrome Support Group
Myofascial Pain Syndrome (or MPS) is a term used to describe one of the conditions characterized by chronic pain. It is associated with and caused by "trigger points" (TrPs), sensitive and painful areas between the muscle and fascia. The symptoms can range from referred pain through myofascial trigger points to specific pains in other areas of the body. It may be related...
I'm 37, and one evening Jan 2010 as I sat to relax for the evening it felt like I was doused with gas and lit up - my fam dr put me on Lyrica and said it was nerve pain..live with it, I've seen every dr under the sun, nothng shows in MRI or x-rays - I research daily and came across a gentlmen who cured his 'nerve pain' after being treated for a muscle spams of the Longussumis Colli (neck muscle) this interested me because from day one I beleived this was sort of an injury, from weight training ect...I decided to ask my Dr for a muscle relaxor and she put me on Baclofen (after a yr on Lyrica, Norty, Percs ect and none helped at all!!) the baclofen helped - I just started seeing a Osteopath to see if he can help, I am going to stay on him t stay focused as he has me buying ten visits (1500. - which i've paid n full) and is 'balancing me' - hasnt even examined me painful area yet...but hes the best -I drive over 1/5 hrs both ways to see him each week -sometimes 2x's.
I'm wondering can MyofacialPain be cured?
Problem Im having is Ive been nausiated so bad for 6 weeks- vomit violently every few days out of the blue -motion sickness.. what other meds can I try?
I don't know the answer to your medication problems, assuming that is why you are nauseated. Just in case though, I had nausea for months when the trp's were flared really bad. Don't know for sure if it was the pain, or trp's in areas that would cause nausea.
I can say that yes, myofascial pain is curable. There is a belief that it can be either acute or chronic. But even with chronic forms, it can be controlled so that chronic really can just mean that you would be more prone to that response.
I haven't had a trp for a couple of months now. One therapist suggested it was chronic. I saw a Bonnie Pruden myotherapist who helped me a lot. Then I saw another myotherapist in another town a couple of times. I've done other energy work including remote healings of medical qigong, and working with a healer named Trivedi. I believe it all helped. I took muscle relaxers for just a few months. Both prescription and over the counter herbals. But Enid with Bonnie Pruden, and the other myotherapist both told me that in order to get the amount of help one needs from muscle relaxers an extremely high dose would have to be taken. So, I got off of them and honestly, with trigger point therapy I didn't need them. Not that I wasn't in pain. But I didn't see a significant change in the level of pain on or off.
Learn and study. Study and learn. You will have to read books, read hundreds of posts off of this site, experiment on your self.
There are a lot of people on this support site who have been down this road and are willing to share their experiences. You will not find one of them who got anywhere with the disease with a purely pharmaceutical approach.
Best of Luck
I recently changed meds, both pain and depression meds, and was getting violently sick everyday myself. I bought some OTC Dramamine, and take it at least a half hour b4 taking my new meds, and it has helped immensely. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

I can now say i am in remission, it took 3 long years of searching what worked for me , but finally i can say I have no pain, at least not the pain I had with spasams and tightness and always feeling like I was tense. I was on this sight one night and a girl mentioned TMS and the John Sarno Book Healing my Back pain. And I thought wth I have nothing to lose. So I bought the book and 2 more he wrote and my goodness I was a tms paient and didn't even know it . Along with the treatment in the book and my wave 3 unit it took me 4 months to be pain free! I am back to work full time, working out again and i feel great. I am off all drugs and I still have a little tenderness here and there but nothing I can't deal with. I finally have my life back! I have to say the book is what put me on track. oh would of thought 14.95 would help a chronic pain paient who spent more than she made a month on Doctor's copays. Read the books .
Yes, definitely Myofascial Pain can be cured. If it is the trigger point version, massage or needling are almost always a part of the solution.
Best of Luck and Welcome to the Board.
Also what is TMS?
Acupuncture is placing the needle in the meridian and usually leaving it for a bit. The needle may be moved, but not for the same reasons as to address the trigger points.
Very different treatment!
Also wondering if myofascial pain sort of moves around? Every day it's my upper back and neck, but sometimes it also includes my chest and throat/front and sides of neck...
Yep myofascial pain moves around sometimes, pain changes etc since trigger points can be more active at one time or another due to the activity you were doing last etc. A good bodyworker can assess you for it, you can figure it out for yourself too. The biggest issue is making sure it is not something else...thyroid, reaction to food or food additives, arthritis etc. Just like Fibro. "well you dont have anything else, so we will call it this" "here try these drugs" Actually the best thing is to get checked then learn to self treat, clean up your diet if needed and toss the meds if you can.
There are some docs that do treatments. we have a few listed on our website, http://www.myofascialtherapy.org/find-a-therapist/index.html also you can look a the training programs http://www.myofascialtherapy.org/events-training/training-programs.html Myopain Seminars teaches to doctors.
I'm wondering what you meant in your comment "clean up your diet" ?Is there a special diet that is better for someone with myofascial pain?
